Facilities

Cost of Living

As part of the evidence required for your visa application, you are required to demonstrate financial evidence that you can cover the costs of your stay. From May 2022, the approximate 12-month living costs are as follows:

For Students and/or Guardians: $22,500 (AUD)
For Partners (Travelling with you): $7,900 (AUD)
For Children (Travelling with you): $3,750 (AUD)

If you are travelling with a school-aged dependent (child 5 – 18 years of age), you may be required to enroll them into an Australian School, including covering the cost of their school fees. You may be required to provide documentary evidence of their enrolment and payment of school fees.

Below is a broad estimate indicator of the cost of education for a dependent child (depending on their education level and requirements):

School Fees (Primary or Secondary): $7,800 – $30,000 (AUD)
English Language Studies: $300 (AUD) per week (depending on course length)
Vocational Education and Training: $4,000 – $22,000 (AUD)
Certificate I – IV, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma

Accommodation

Perth has many student accommodation options, including houses, hostels, apartments, rooms for rent and homestay options. The prices can vary considerably depending on accommodation type and location.

The following information will provide you with approximate costs for each accommodation style.

Hostels and Guesthouses: $90 – $150 (AUD) per week
Shared Rental: $95 – $215 (AUD) per week
Homestay: $235 – $325 (AUD) per week
Rental: $185 – $440 (AUD) per week
Boarding Schools: $11,000 – $22,000 (AUD) per year

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

As an international student in Australia on a student visa, you must have health insurance for your stay. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) helps cover medical costs, including ambulance and some medicines. Some students from Sweden, Norway, or Belgium may have different arrangements.

If your visa or Medicare status changes, tell your OSHC insurer. When your student visa ends, you can’t have OSHC anymore.
